96 Points, James Suckling

“The 2019 Lassegue unwinds in the glass with aromas plums, wild berries, pencil shavings and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, deep and lively, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a rather understated, elegant profile for an estate that can often deliver rather dramatic wines, this will reward a little patience.”-92+WA, 2025-2045

Its blond stone basking in the Bordeaux sun, Château Lassègue is both a place of work and a home. For 250 years, the sundials that grace its façade have borne witness to the past – landmarks for passing vineyard workers, markers of the sun’s course, the memory of successive generations and vintages, they are the symbols of a timeless history.

From a very young age, sixth-generation vigneron Pierre Seillan observed and learned the craft of winegrowing and winemaking from his Armagnac forebears. In the years that followed, he has tirelessly added to this know-how during the decades of working with the Jackson family in the finest vineyards in France and the United States. Now, this distinguished vigneron is passing on his mastery of the synergy between man and nature to the next generations.

Since 2003, Château Lassègue has been the story of two families, two generations and two continents. Jess Jackson and Pierre Seillan, the ‘founding fathers’ of the project, immediately recognized the potential of Château Lassègue and had the skills and resources to develop the estate. Together with their wives and partners, Barbara and Monique, they looked to the past to create and guide the future.

The Seillans have been associated with the land for as long as anyone can remember. This affinity has influenced their style: true craftsmen, they listen to the land in order to discover all its variations and transmit these subtleties into their wines.

Barbara, Monique and Pierre are delighted to see the estate evolve today under the next generation. With the support of both families, Nicolas Seillan, now vigneron at Lassègue, and his wife, Christina, are working with great passion and dedication to write a new chapter in this family venture.
