Railsback Frères, Red Wine of Santa Ynez Valley, California 2017

“The 2017 Rouge is a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache. Medium ruby, it’s scented of fresh cranberries, tart blackberries, dried herbs and underbrush with notions of citrus peel and red berries. The medium-bodied palate offers good fruit intensity and earthy accents with a chalky frame and great freshness on the finish. 298 cases were made.”- Wine  Advocate

Railsback Freres was founded by brothers Eric and Lyle Railsback, who seek to highlight Central California’s top growing areas through their site-specific bottles. Both brothers are acclaimed sommeliers who have been named in Wine Enthusiast’s 40 under 40 tastemakers in separate years. Eric also has a well regarded winery called Lieu-Dit as well as manages and owns wine stores in California. Lyle was most recently the National Sales Manager for Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant. It is a wonder that they have time to make such delicious wine!

This 50/50 blend of Grenache and whole-cluster Syrah comes from cooler growing sites in Santa Ynez and is noted with flavors of bacon, juicy dark fruit, wild berries, and black pepper. Chewy and textured, this wine pairs perfectly with lamb, game, and all things smoked on the grill.
