This is an elegant expression of Nero d’Avola. When first tasting this wine, the Sicilian terroir was evident and due to the delicate transparency of the wine I assumed that it might be the Nerello Mascalese grape. The tannins though are surely present and there is still weight to this wine. The bright red fruits remind me of Burgundy. Could this really be Nero d’Avola? The wine is lean and yet the word that comes to mind is “complete”. It needs not lean against food to be enjoyed but it can be paired with a variety of cuisine, including dishes with bold flavors and spice.
