Founded in 1998, Failla is a project by winemaker Ehren Jordan that is dedicated to sourcing cool climate fruit from the coastal areas of California and making wine using traditional Burgundian methods. Ehren debuted in the California wine industry in 1994, followed by a sojourn to Cornas. After years of making wines for both Neyers Vineyards and Turley Wine Cellars, Ehren decided to start his own business.

Between 1991 and 1994 Savoy Vineyard was planted by original owner Rich Savoy in Anderson Valley. The vineyard is full of knolls composed of sandy loam and alluvial terraces with more darkly colored loams underlain with clay loams. Failla receives a selection massale from the vineyard, ensuring that it gets the most complexity and the truest reflection of the Savoy Vineyard. The grapes are 30% whole cluster fermentation with all native yeasts before aging for 11 months in 20% new French oak. The finished wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Aromatically the wine has notes of brambly currants and cranberries, with notes of dried rosemary and thyme and a hint of damp topsoil. On the palate, the berry flavors are a touch tarter, with silken tannins that show real aging potential
