Chateau Bellevue was founded by Michel and Catherine Lydoire in 1998, with the estate’s oldest vines dating to the 1960’s. To access the estate, you embark on a drive through the middle of a diverse landscape of vines and forests. When you arrive, you will understand why the winery is called Bellevue, which means “nice view”.             Caterine and Michel Lydoire have put all their passion into producing quality wines and meeting wine lovers. “For us, wine is an encounter.” An encounter between a terroir and vines, an encounter between a terroir and a winegrower, an encounter between a wine and an amateur. “We produce wines that we like: simple and generous or complex and elegant. And we make sure that each vintage reflects our commitment and our passion.”            Their feet are firmly anchored in their land. This is why they work with respect for what has been done before them and they try to preserve this treasure for those who will arrive late. The estate is certified level 2 by AREA for their consistent efforts towards sustainability. They stopped using weedkillers and have eliminated the most toxic phytosanitary products from their treatments. They use mainly organic fertilizers and chemical fertilizers only when the soul analysis indicates a deficiency. Jacques Puisais said: “The wine must have the taste of where it comes from and the guts of the man who makes it.”            Michel and Catherine’s daughter Celine joined the family estate over 10 years ago and now serves as the winemaker, with help from her father and guidance from oenologists Thomas Duclos and Gilles Pauquet (Chateau Cheval Blanc’s former enologist).Chateau Bellevue’s Castillon is 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc from 40 year old vines.
