Jazz and Wine Festival at the Westin Princeville

People on Kauai are already getting excited about the 5th Annual Jazz and Wine Festival at the Westin Princeville happening happening on September 27th, 2014. The Westin Princeville puts on this event every year and proceeds from the silent auction help support the Kauai Lifeguard Association. Last year was my first year attending and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t gone to this event earlier.

The music is surprisingly good, but the food and drink really steal the show. I am not usually impressed with the wine choices at these sort of events, but the wine distributors seem to be trying to one up each other at this thing and are really picking killer wines. Last year my favorite tasted was a bottle of 2010 Bordeaux by Saint Glinglin, a project by Richard Betts, followed by a 2005 Novy Syrah from Napa. My customers loved the Alto Cinco Garnacha from Spain and the William Hill Cabernet from California.

Many of Kauai’s top restaurants will be supplying small bites at action stations throughout the main lawn, each partnered with a different wine distributor so that there is never a long line at the the different food and drink stations. The restaurants involved are the Hukilau Lanai, Merriman’s, Bar Acuda, RumFire, Kauai Grill, Makana Terrace, and Nanea. If you need a pick me up after all the food and wine Kauai Coffee will be there with a coffee station.

I probably shouldn’t be promoting the fact that this is one of the best silent auctions on Kauai all year long (more competition for me, haha), but it is true. The highlight to me is all of the resort properties around the country that donate room nights to the silent auction. Last year, I scored a great deal on a Maui stay-cation. I got to support the Kauai Lifeguard Association and get a great deal on a Westin stay at the same time!

At any rate, this is one of the not to miss food and wine events that happen on Kauai.
